Have a fabulous summer!!  

*Thanks to all of those who helped with the moving!  It seems to get easier each time we do it.  The tentative date for moving the furniture back down will be Friday, August 13th at 5:00.  We’ll keep you posted.   

*We are sending the children’s Yoga mats home for a good cleaning over the summer.  Please bring your child’s mat back on the first day of school.  Please be sure his/her name is written in permanent marker on all four outside corners. 

*I have confirmed with the Alachua County School board that the uniform policy will not be applicable to charter schools.  Please keep in mind our non-violence policy when choosing school clothes, backpacks, and lunchboxes for next year. 

*We will be having our Grade Level Expectation meeting on Thursday, August 19, at 6:00 p.m.  Please mark the date on your calendars. 

*We will be sending home summer work packets, as usual, to help prepare your child for the next grade level and to help avoid summer regression.  We strongly encourage you to support your children in completing the packet and reading orally on a regular basis throughout the summer.  Research has proven that regular oral reading and questioning improves fluency and comprehension.  Every student who returns a completed packet will receive a reward! 

 *Your surveys indicated, and the School Advisory Council has discussed, the importance of trying to figure out a playground solution.  We need your help!  Many hands make light work!   We are thinking we would like to purchase a few choice pieces (climbing apparatus, slides, etc.) that we can move to the new location when the time comes.  Unfortunately, these commercial grade items are extremely expensive!  There are tons of grants and other incentives out there to help purchase them.  If you have computer knowledge, please try to search out some of these funding sources and make some pricing comparisons.  Let me know what you find out.  We may need to do a one-time fundraiser to help finance this project, and hope we can count on your support.

*Please keep in mind the following free and easy ways to help raise funds for your child’s school:

·       Box tops for Education.  We earned over $800 from Box Tops this year!  Please check out the Box Tops web site and sign up for all the contests they have.  You can also view Papa Ed’s messages and send him one!  Thanks Papa Ed!

·       Tyson A+ labels – each one is worth 24 cents.  Collect all summer and turn them in when school resumes.

·       Coke Reward Points – inside caps or cases is a code which you can enter at www.mycokerewards.com and then donate to the school. Or you may bring them in and we will enter them for you. 

·       New for HLA:  Campbell’s Soup Labels – a list of products can be found at www.labelsforeducation.com.
